This book is for people who make or influence decisions about sediment remediation. It describes a step-by-step sequence of decisions to determine whether, and how, to clean up contaminated sediments, or to let natural recovery occur.

The book summarizes the pioneering work of 26 researchers at four universities in the Great Lakes Basin; a group who laid the foundation for numerical simulation and optimization of sediment remediation. Simulation and optimization tools have a potential for greatly reducing the enormous costs of cleaning up contaminated sediments.
